  1. What is the SRC Education Alliance?
The SRC Education Alliance is a wholly owned subsidiary of the SRC. The SRCEA is a private foundation under Internal Revenue Code sections 501(c) 3 and 509(a), which allows donations to be made to the Fellowship Fund as tax exempt contributions. The SRCEA is managed by SRC staff under the SRC umbrella.
  2. Why is the Simon Karecki Fellowship Fund being administered under the SRCEA as opposed to the SRC?
a.The SRCEA provides a tax advantage to donors. The SRCEA's tax status [501(c) 3 and 509(a)] allows donations to be made as tax-exempt contributions. Monies provided through the SRC are deductible as business expenses.
b.The SRCEA provides a forum to interact with a different "member" set so that organizations and individuals outside the SRC membership can participate.
  3. Who is on the Simon Karecki Fellowship Fund Advisory Board and how do I contact them?
a.Farhang Shadman, University of Arizona, shadman@erc.arizona.edu
    b.Rafael Reif, MIT, reif@mtl.mit.edu
    c.Reed Content, AMD, reed.content@amd.com

    g.Tim Wooldridge, SRC, tim.wooldridge@src.org
    h.Virginia Wiggins, SRC/SRCEA, virginia.wiggins@src.org
  4. What percentage of donations actually goes to the fellowship?
The SRCEA is providing administration of the Fellowship Fund at no charge, and Capital Management Group is donating its services (about half the brokerage fee) for managing the Fellowship Fund investment. Therefore all funds except the brokerage fees that Capital Management must pay to join investment funds will go directly to the Fellowship Fund.
  5. Will the Fund be used for anything other than the Simon Karecki Fellowship?
For the past three years the Governing Board has elected to award the Simon Karecki Prize, each prize in the amount of $1,000 taken from the Fellowship Fund. The Prize is awarded competitively and recognizes students who have made outstanding contributions to the CEBSM. Further, awarding the Prize provides the opportunity to highlight the Fellowship Fund and the purpose it serves.
  6. Are contributions tax deductible?
Yes. Donations to the SRCEA are deductible as tax-exempt contributions.
  7. Can the SRCEA accept company-matching grants for individual contributions?
Both Motorola and AMD have matched contributions. Donations from matching gift companies should be accompanied by the appropriate form from that company with the donor information completed. The SRCEA will complete and return the form to the company at which time the company will determine qualification.
  8. Is the SRCEA set up to accept funds now?
Yes. The SRCEA is a fully functional organization and the Fellowship Fund has been invested with Capital Management Group (www.mycmg.net). Contributions will be added to the investment on a regular schedule.
  9. What kinds of contributions are you looking for?
Contributions in any amount and from any source will be accepted. However, in order to reach the target of $700K, a number of reasonably large corporate gifts will be necessary.
  10. Have you established donation levels?
In order to fully fund one fellowship annually without dipping into the principal, we have set a target for the Fellowship Fund of $700K. There are 30 companies on the Industry Advisory Board for the ERC. While we do expect many donations of $100 or less from individuals, we believe that the bulk of the investment will come from corporate donations.
  11. What kind of recognition/publicity will SRC give to significant donors?
A list of donors (by level) is published in a brochure and distributed at the February Center Review and other events; donors are recognized at this event. A list of donors will be maintained on the SRCEA Web site. Every donation will recognized by the SRCEA with a receipt via US mail. When the Fellowship Fund reaches the $700K mark, the SRCEA will do a press release recognizing the donors.
  12. Where can I get further information?
Contact the SRC Education Alliance, e-mail students@src.org, telephone (919-941-9453) or visit the SRCEA Web site (http://srcea.src.org/programs/karecki/default.asp).
